Syrian Massacre: Like Father, Like Son, 1984

Description

A rotation methodology prevailed as a technique in the search to discover composition. The technique is readily apparent in this explosive depiction of turmoil in Syria.
Many of the artist’s compositions focus on current and historical events that have and are shaping our world. In 1919, following the end of World War I, France occupied Lebanon. The Islamic government in neighboring Syria, having aligned with the opposition during the war against France, feared the worse. In a state of paranoia, believing the French would launch a fifth column Christian insurgency among its minority communities, Syria instituted a country-wide pogrom. It resulted in the arrest, trial and execution of the artist’s grandfather. His father and grandmother escaped and migrated to the United States America in time to avoid the purge.
